Review on Rock River Arms LAR-15 Elite CAR A4

I have recently purchased a RRA LAR-15 Elite CAR A4. Not only for hunting varmint and shooting for fun, but also for home defense.

First lets go over what it comes with.

1. Comes with a detachable A2 carry handle.  Has the elevation and windage on the back site as well as a 300 and 600 yard flip site.  With the detachable handle on the top it makes it very easy to take off and put on a scope or a EOTECH holographic sight or whatever you may prefer.
2. It comes with the hogue grip already placed on it.  This grip is very soft and comfortable and feels like you could hold on to the rifle all day.  With the finger slots molded in the grip, you get a comfortable feel and a sturdy grip.
3. Has the 6 position stock.  This makes it nice if you are doing drills while clearing houses and moving fast, because you can put the stock at the shortest setting and go for it. If you are shooting at a distance, you can pull the stock out to the farthest setting for more stability while shooting and intern, give you better accuracy.
4. It has a 16″ chrome lined barrel.  I like the length of the barrel because of the aspect of being a home defense gun as well as a gun for hunting.  With the short barrel, if you are using it purely for home defense purposes, it has a less likely chance of hitting against door jams, walls, etc. Mix that with the six position stock and you have yourself a perfect home defense gun.  It is very easy to move about house smoothly and effectively.  You may think that with a shorter barrel you will be limited on accuracy at a distance, you won’t! I went shooting and was hitting accurately and consistently on target at a range of 500yds, making this lethal for any unsuspecting coyotes that think they are out of harms way.
5. It also comes with 1- 30 round metal magazine. I was impressed with this magazine, because it has a no-tilt follower and it is actually made out of metal, not some cheap plastic that will break after many uses.

They are also plenty of accessories  that you can get for this gun since AR-15’s are one of the most customizable guns on the market today. Scopes, rail systems, flash suppressors, stocks, and slings are available.  The options for this gun are endless. Tomorrow I will talk about great add-ons to this gun and good sites to get them from and the prices.

After shooting the gun and putting about 200 rounds down the barrel I am absolutely confident that this gun with perform time in and time out.  I would recommend  a River Rock Arms to anybody that is looking for a good assault rifle for a decent price.

Good Home Defense Handgun Calibers

It is very obvious that there are many types of handgun calibers around on the market today.  Myself, I like the 45acp purposely for the stopping power that it has.  The issue with this caliber of gun is that it may be to difficult to handle and properly chamber a round for less experienced gun user when the time comes.  Over the years I have had various calibers of handguns including .22, .38 revolver, 9mm, 40s&w, 45acp.  In those years I have found that the .38 revolver and 9mm are solid and reliable choices that can be handled well by less experienced gun users.

Lets start with the .38 revolver.  The revolver is a solid gun anyway that you look at it.  It has less moving parts then an semi-automatic handgun has and with that it has a less likely chance to malfunction (jam) under stressful times.  Another good reason is depending on the ammo that you may be using there is no through and through shots. Using hollow points would eliminate this for going through the intended target or with a miss then going through a wall and striking someone else in your home or out on the street and thus saving them from serious injury because of the impact and power this gun has.

There is a downside that I have found with the revolver and that is some of the newer models do not have a safety on them.  This could matter for gun buyers that have children in the their home.  A way to add a layer of safety is to have the chamber next in line empty, so if the trigger is pulled there would be no discharge and would not cause potential  harm. I know that you would be sacrificing a round, but safety in the home  is always first.

Now on to the famous 9mm round.  This is still another great caliber to have next to the bed on the night stand.  A positive reason for owning a 9mm is the magazine capacity.  On most 9mm handguns they have anywhere from 13+1 to 15+1, excluding the Browning Pro-9, which has 10 rounds only.  The reason the bigger magazine is more suitable  is that you  have more rounds to put down range if someone were the come into your home and was armed and felt like shooting back.  Another of the many reasons is that the ammo is very cheap for the 9mm, with that you could go to the shooting range and practice with your gun and become very efficient and very accurate.  The higher muzzle velocity of the 9mm is also great because when it impacts it will  cause more damage.  There again you have to be careful with that because you do not want it to go through a wall and hit something or someone you were not intended on shooting at.  One thing  that will eventually happen with a semi-automatic handgun is it will jam.  This is why it is very important that you practice on how to manually clear the shell casing out so you will know what to do if a jam occurs while protecting yourself.

These handgun calibers are both very solid choices, but this is purely an opinion of mine and I would love to hear what other people think about this. So please leave a comment and your opinions on this matter

So this blog is brand new and this is the first post on it. So let me tell you what this is all about.  This blog is about being a prepared survivalist and knowing how to handle yourself when the situation comes upon you. That is not only what this is about. It is also about guns and enthusiast of guns. This wont be like normal blogs where  I do all the talking. If anyone ever has anything ever to add to it or has anything that is good.
